4-star DC Big Man with SU offering is set to reveal the top 5

Donnie Freeman of Washington, D.C., a big four-star man who received a scholarship offer from Syracuse basketball in August 2021, plans to announce his top 5 this Thursday, on Thanksgiving, he said on Twitter.

The 6ft 9 power forward paid an unofficial visit to Orange in August 2021 while attending the team’s annual Elite Camp.

At the time, the ‘Cuse offered Freeman, and it was the first offer made by the Orange in the 2024 recruitment cycle.

Freeman is a junior at St. John’s College High School in DC. He plays at the AAU circuit with Washington-based team Takeover in Nike’s EYBL league, a grassroots basketball program that several of his alumni have gone to the mound in recent years.

Syracuse basketball will soon know if it will continue to fight for big man Donnie Freeman.

Over the summer, Freeman tweeted that he was eyeing a possible official visit to the ‘Cuse, although that hasn’t materialized yet.

Freeman has made several visits to college campuses, according to recruiting services and media reports. He has made unofficial visits to Rutgers and Maryland.

In September, Freeman paid an official visit to Iowa and recently paid an official visit to Texas.

To date, in addition to Syracuse basketball, his offering sheet includes LSU, Kansas State, Pittsburgh, Iowa, Texas, Rutgers, Marquette, Bryant, Ole Miss, VCU, Norfolk State, Alabama, Maryland, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Xavier, George Mason and Old Dominion .

All primary recruitment services rank Freeman in the top 60 for the class of 2024. Several recruitment websites list him in the top 30.

Additionally, Freeman ranks as the No. 1 in Washington, D.C. in the 2024 cycle and he is also one of the top 10 forwards in that class nationally.

Since the Syracuse basketball coaches offered him more than a year ago, I’ve encountered numerous reports indicating that the Orange Freeman is a hard recruit. It remains to be seen whether this is currently the case.

In a recent interview with national analyst Jake Weingarten, founder of Stockrisers.com, Freeman was asked which schools are heavily involved in his recruitment at this time.

Freeman replied, “Texas, Arkansas, Rutgers, Miami, Iowa and Maryland.” His latest offer comes from LSU, and he told Weingarten that he could pay an official visit to this Southeastern Conference squad.

Freeman said he’s looking at a potential signing announcement “probably sometime in December.”

We’ll of course provide an update as soon as Freeman reveals his top 5. If I’m being honest, I’d be a little surprised if the ‘Cuse made the cut.
