Adriana Salame – aka “Pop-Up Bae” in the bar world – is the design mastermind behind some of DC’s best vacation bars, including a for six years on Shaw’s insanely popular Miracle on Seventh Street (RIP). But when it came time to transform Navy Yard’s Maxwell Park into a vacation haven, like she did last year, Salame admits she “wasn’t particularly inspired”. Then Taylor Swift’s new album came out, TikTok filled with dancers strutting to “Bejeweled,” and Salame’s creative Christmas juices started flowing.

The music video’s Cinderella theme snowballed. Aspiazu jumped alongside Netflix christmas prince, leading to visions of a royal Christmas with the Queen and a palace surrounded by jewels, leading to a massive spending spree on glittery things (plastic rhinestones, charms, crystal, glass and glitter). The jeweled, Queen Swift-inspired Christmas Bar was born.

All of Salame’s pop-ups are designed with a baked-in social media moment – cue Iron Throne at Drink Company game of Thrones Pop-up (the chair that started a thousand Instagram posts). For the Bejeweled Christmas Bar by Maxwell Park, the Thing is a glittery place where “the gays and the girls” can emulate Swift’s dance. And, of course, Swift’s music will be played repeatedly, overlaid with holiday-themed pop playlists.

“Instagram has always had this filter that makes everything sparkle. I’m trying to light that filter,” says Salame.

Of course, no Christmas bar would be complete without hot cocktails, eggnog shots and other festive foods. Maxwell Park owner Brent Kroll says he channeled a “Christmas-in-the-sun” vibe for his menu. Patrons can enjoy a Snow on the Beach, a spicy riff on a tequila and grapefruit paloma, or an espresso martini. There are also more traditional holiday drinks like hot mulled wine, peppermint shooters, spiked whipped cream, and a full list of Maxwell Park bubbles and wines. For dining, chef Bart Hutchins has created a menu of fun dishes for Christmas parties like caviar bumps, truffled grilled cheese, pigs in blankets, goose pie and eggnog panna cotta.

Revelers are welcome to stop by, but groups can also book four outdoor candy cane greenhouses, which are outfitted with electric heaters and speakers playing Christmas music. Reservations are $100 per person and include a welcome food and beverage pack. Taylor Swift may be haunting DC on her concert schedule, but she’ll still be here in the holiday spirit.
