One would expect Hugh Jackman to really love X-Men, where he played Wolverine, but actually it’s not his favorite.
In a recent interview with Variety, the Australian actor revealed that his favorite superhero movie is Nolan’s The Dark Knight.
“My favorite superhero movie. Growing up, the first Superman. That was a turning point. Dick Donner Film, Christopher Reeve. I’ll say I’m thinking of one of the Nolan Batmans. I’m going to be a Dark Knight, “Jackman said.
Nolan’s The Dark Knight was groundbreaking in so many ways, not to mention the fact that the director’s gritty aesthetic set the tone for DCU films for years to come.
Nolan needs to speak up to Oppenheimer, but does he have what it takes?
The second installment in the Batman trilogy paved the way for superhero films to gain recognition in the “big leagues” of awards shows, earning Heath Ledger a posthumous Oscar for his unforgettable portrayal of the Joker. Grossing $1.006 billion worldwide, The Dark Knight was a critical and commercial success and, more than a decade later, still stands as the best DC Comics-based film of all time.
Hugh Jackman also told Variety what the scariest movie he saw as a kid was. Jackman said he was scared of the flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz. He said he was literally “traumatized by the monkeys” and had to hide behind the seat while his father said, “He’ll be fine, let’s see the rest!
The good news for all X-Men and Deadpool fans is that Hugh Jackman is returning to his iconic role as Logan – he most recently played Wolverine in 2017’s Logan directed by James Mangold. The character will appear in the upcoming sequel Deadpool 3, in which the actor will work alongside Ryan Reynolds.
Pretty much nobody noticed Kaley Cuoco’s secret cameo as young Sheldon
The latter has been waiting for this moment for a long time. You’d think it was Reynolds who convinced Jackman. Well, in a recent interview with colliders‘s Steven Weintraub, the Canadian-American actor, declined to credit Logan’s comeback, but admitted he’s been pushing hard for a movie starring Wolverine and Deadpool together.
“I don’t think I’m responsible for Hugh coming back. I always wanted Hugh to come back. My first meeting with Kevin Feige was when Disney bought Fox years ago, maybe three years ago or three and a half, four years ago, before that I’m not sure, it was about doing a movie with the two of us, a Deadpool Wolverine movie .”
It wasn’t possible then, but time passed and so it happened.
“Hugh happened to call at that perfect moment and said he was interested in coming back and doing this again,” Reynolds said. However, he declined to provide further details about the conversation, saying that Jackman will speak “eventually” and will answer any questions about his return as Wolverine should they arise.
When Deadpool 3 will start filming is still unclear. Reynolds has neither confirmed nor denied rumors that filming will begin in April 2023. He does not know and the dates are “negotiable”.
Deadpool 3, directed by Shawn Levy, is slated for a theatrical release on November 8, 2024.
