COOKING WATER ADVICE ISSUED FOR PORTIONS OF GRAND ISLE

JEFFERSON, LAIn cooperation with the Louisiana Department of Health and Human Services, the Jefferson Parish Water Department is issuing a Boil Water Advisory for Grand Isle from Cheniere to Rosethorn Lane as a precautionary measure due to a loss of pressure in the distribution system.

These COOKING WATER NOTICES remain in effect until revoked by the Jefferson Township Water Department or the Louisiana Department of Health and Human Services. Bacteriological samples must be taken from the distribution system and analyzed to ensure the water meets drinking water standards.

What should residents do?

All residents are urged not to drink the water without first boiling or sanitizing it, or using bottled water. Until further notice, boiled, sanitized, or bottled water should be used before drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and when preparing food. In a clean container, boil the water for a full minute. The one minute begins after the water has been brought to a boil. The foul taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a bottle or pouring it from one container to another.

Sanitize the water by mixing 1/8 teaspoon unscented liquid chlorine bleach with a gallon of water and letting sit for at least 30 minutes before consuming. Mix thoroughly.
