LAPLACE – The location of the former Sicily at 214 Belle Terre Blvd. in LaPlace is the new home of Johnny’s Pizza House, a Louisiana-based business that will soon be offering dine-in, take-out and delivery in the parish of St. John the Baptist.
Johnny’s Pizza’s LaPlace location is expected to open in the first or second week of January 2023. Franchisee Jeff Huggins also operates Johnny’s locations in Covington and Alexandria, with another location planned for Slidell after LaPlace opens.
Johnny Huntsman founded the Johnny’s Pizza House brand in Monroe in 1967. His restaurant was housed in a small rented building with only three parking spaces. The company has since grown to more than 40 locations in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas.
According to Huggins, what sets Johnny’s apart from the competition is freshly prepared ingredients every day, from the pizza dough to the vegetables and meat that are loaded onto the pizzas. Johnny’s also uses a secret sauce with a Louisiana flavor that sets it apart from other brands. The #1 bestseller, Sweep the Kitchen, has a legendary combination of 11 ingredients.
Other popular pizza specialties include Bacon Cheeseburger, BBQ Blast, Buffalo Chicken, Chicken Ranchero, Hog Heaven, Mauie Wowie, Mighty Meaty, Pepperoni Power, Veg Out, and Muffuletta. Johnny’s also offers shareables, salads, reduced-calorie pizza shells, a unique take on calzones called Johnny’s Flips, and a dessert menu.
Huggins began negotiations to acquire the former site in Sicily more than a year ago. The final lease was received the day before Hurricane Ida hit, delaying the opening process. Huggins looks forward to having Johnny a part of LaPlace’s continued growth.
“We are excited about LaPlace and St. John Parish. LaPlace is the same type of area as the smaller towns around larger towns that Johnny’s has been successful in in northern Louisiana — towns like Ruston,” Huggins said. “Johnny’s is a very community-driven brand in terms of working with local schools and civic organizations. LaPlace fits perfectly with Johnny’s strategy to grow with the community.”
All managers and staff will be hired locally from early December. Individuals interested in employment opportunities may contact 985-224-1101 for more information.
The restaurant is expected to be open from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Huggins encourages longtime fans of LaPlace Sicily’s location to give Johnny’s a shot.
“Given Johnny’s 55-year history in Louisiana, I think people will be very pleasantly surprised. I think they will be very impressed with our product and service,” he said.
