Louisiana started the first five games on a 2-3 run, losing to Rice, LA-Monroe and South Alabama. The Cajuns went on 3-2 runs in their next five with wins over Marshall, Arkansas State, and Georgia Southern.
In Saturday’s game against Florida State, Louisiana was down 35-3 at halftime. The Cajuns managed some cosmetic points in the fourth, but it was a 49-17 loss. QB Chandler Fields had 159 yards and a score. Michael Jefferson caught six balls for 60 yards and a TD.
Over on the Texas State side, they also went 2-3 in their first five games, beating only FIU and Houston Baptist. The Bobcats defeated App State, then lost back-to-back to Troy, Southern Miss, LA-Monroe, and South Alabama.
Against Arkansas State, Texas State suffered a 10-3 deficit in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats picked up 13 points from there in a 16-13 comeback win. QB Layne Hatcher put on 196 yards and Lincoln Pare led the rush with 75 yards and a score.
The Cajuns are 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five away games. In Louisiana’s last eight away games, the over is 6-2.
Meanwhile, the Bobcats are 6-1 ATS in their last seven and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 in November after an ATS loss. Texas State is in the last seven after a straight win with a 2-5 ATS.
SELECT: I’ll probably stay at Texas State. However, I don’t go near this one. The Bobcats had a tough game against Arkansas State through the fourth quarter. Texas State would finish in a lucky win with 340 yards and 19 first downs.
As for Louisiana, they were beaten by Florida State in their last game, giving up 440 yards, 23 first downs and 11 of 15 on third-down attempts against the Seminoles offense. This will be an easier matchup, of course, but it’s hard to trust the Cajuns after such a troubled season.
