Allentown FFA Receives Top Places in New Jersey Fall FFA Competitions – MidJersey.News

ALLENTOWN, NJ (MONMOUTH) – On Thursday November 17ththOn May 15, 2022, the Allentown FFA participated in fall career development events hosted by the New Jersey FFA Association at Rutgers University, School of Environmental & Biological Sciences (SEBS). The Allentown FFA received top rankings in Land Judging, Fruit & Vegetable Identification, Turf Management and Forestry.


Allentown FFA members won 1St in the state for the Land Judging & Homesite Evaluation Event. During this event, members assess soil texture, determine slope, erosion, and other factors that drive land use. Included team members (and their rank):

  • Sean Cary – First place
  • Derek Voorhees – Second place
  • Gavin Byrne – Fifth place
  • Brayden Jany – Ninth place

Land Judging qualified to represent New Jersey at the National Land & Range Judging Contest in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma this May.


Fruit and vegetable labeling also placed 1St in the state. The competition requires members to identify 50 different types of fruit and vegetables, judge fruit and vegetables by appearance and other quality standards, and take a written exam about the fruit and vegetable industry.   • Sophia Jones – First place
  • Maddin Emmons – Eighth place
  • Adam Ugi
  • Paige Conroy

forestry 2nd place in the state. Participants in this competition measured and identified trees, created a forestry business plan, assessed common tree diseases and took a written forestry exam. Included team members (and their rank):

  • Matthew McCormick – Second place
  • Anna Holman – Eighth place
  • Cody Ponzio
  • Rafferty strain

Lawn Management earned 3rd in the state. In this competition, students identified common lawn and weed species, identified common lawn equipment, rated a lawn location, and completed a written lawn exam. Included team members (and their rank):

  • Kathryn Giovanelli- Fifth place
  • Allison Josielewski-Tenth place
  • Lilly Haine
  • Kaci Byrne
