There’s a dawn of hope on the horizon in New Jersey, thanks in part to an Ocean County-based nonprofit helping the nation’s struggling cancer patients and their families.
We’re in the final days of November, and with that, the Movember Let It Grow fundraiser. David’s Dream and Believe Cancer Foundation of Manahawkin, and your help is needed Help the nonprofit organization reach its goal of $50,000.
Harvey Cedars Police Chief Robert Burnafordwho is also an advisory board member DDBCFjoined us “Shore Time with Vin and Dave” on 94.3 The Point and 105.7 The Hawk on Sunday morning to discuss the ongoing fundraiser and how you can help.
“The Foundation does just incredible, incredible things,” Chief Burnaford told Townsquare Media. “To date – and these numbers never cease to amaze me – over 2,400 families have received direct financial aid totaling nearly $2.4 million, and think of a small grassroots foundation built on David’s (Caldarella) dream , when he was the one in that chair who got the news that you had cancer – wanted to help give back and to actually be able to say today that the foundation has done that is really, just fantastic. ”
The amount of money raised and helped by DDBCF over the years continues to grow and so does Testimonies and stories are shared bringing everyone together.
“The one thing I always try to say to people is that everyone has a story,” Chief Burnaford said. “I, knock on wood, I’ve never had cancer, but my mother did, right, that’s my story. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016 and died in 2018. What the foundation does – it doesn’t just do financial aid for people who need it, but also various support and wellness aids, whether it’s through acupuncture visits or massages, because yes, money is key, whether you need help paying bills, transportation, or groceries — family members are also affected.”
This is a foundation like many, many others where even the supposedly smallest amount of a cash donation is extremely helpful and beneficial to the non-profit organization and by extension so many individuals.
“The one thing I always like is Planned Giving, where everyone, and I do, whether you want to give a dollar, five dollars, ten dollars, twenty dollars – whatever you can afford monthly, that You sign up and it’s just a recurring exit, it’s just to help the foundation so it’s a constant stream of financial support,” Chief Burnaford said. “You don’t have to contribute a large dollar amount — every little contribution helps .”
